All Servicemembers and Families go through it at some point: Military to civilian transition. Some of us meet it with great excitement. Some with apprehension. Luckily, there are people and organizations in our communities who have signed up to help us get through this tough phase. People like Britton Bloch, Vice President of the Talent Acquisition Strategy and Recruiting department at Navy Federal Credit Union. I had the great opportunity to chat with Britton about transition and opportunities at NFCU during this week’s Your Next Mission® video podcast.
Navy Federal Credit Union Programs
The NFCU proudly runs a Military Affairs hiring program division that is laser focused on three separate programs, all geared toward assisting military transition and job placement: DoD SkillsBridge, Hiring Our Heroes and Military Spouse Hiring Our Heroes, as well as a new NFCU program called Internal Mobility, which is specific to military spouses who are pending a permanent changes of station (PCS).
The DoD Skills Bridge program varies from three to six months and is open to Servicemembers who are in their final 180 days of service. NFCU offers this program to all services, from all duty stations, at all times of the year. This allows transitioning members to work at a fellowship, at no cost to them, and gain valuable corporate job experience. The Hiring Our Heroes programs allow both Servicemembers and their spouses to apply for six- or 12-week programs. All these programs help provide direct access to mentors, job opportunities and resources that are key to transition success.
Here are a couple of additional key areas that the NFCU transition programs focus on:
-
- Translating job skills.
- Resume reviews.
- Social media networking.
- Integrating with Family.
- Preparing to enter the work force.
- Adjusting to a different pace of life.
I firmly believe in the value of a transition mentor and encourage interested members and spouses to considering joining programs such as these to provide a structured evolution that will set your Families up for success. Visit the NFCU website for more information about their fellowship programs.
